This past week was a bit more of the same, and honestly, sometimes a little consistency is exactly what a family needs.
Tuesday and Wednesday followed our usual routine: Jasper headed to school while Mom and Dad went to work. After our swimming adventure on Monday, Thursday was a full day of school and work for everyone. By Friday, we were back at it again, but there was a little something special waiting for Jasper.
Mom joined him at school to pick out his very own little pumpkin from the school’s magical pumpkin patch. It’s one of those simple childhood experiences that might not seem like much to adults, but for a little boy, it’s a chance to make a memory and bring a little piece of fall home with him.
Friday evening brought more family time. My parents and aunt came over for pizza and a chance to spend time together with my in-laws. With family visiting from India, having everyone together under one roof is something I really appreciate. Good food, familiar faces, and time to catch up made for a lovely way to end the workweek.
Saturday was all about getting out of the house and making memories with Jasper. My aunt joined us for a morning at the zoo, giving us another opportunity to enjoy the day together and see the world through Jasper’s eyes.
But the day didn’t end when Jasper went to bed. With Nani and Nanu staying home with him, Mom and Dad got a rare evening out of our own. We headed downtown for dinner and drinks with two close friends. It was great to spend time with people we care about, enjoy some adult conversation, and have a little time together as a couple. Parenting is wonderful, but those opportunities to reconnect with friends and each other are important, too.
Sunday brought us back to the Gurudwara, another meaningful part of our family’s routine. After that, we wrapped up the weekend with a project closer to home: installing our new mailbox.
It might not sound like the most exciting way to finish a weekend, but home projects are part of this season of life, too. Between raising Jasper, keeping up with work, spending time with family, and making improvements around the house, there’s always something happening.
Looking back, this week wasn’t about one huge milestone or a big adventure. It was about the little things: a pumpkin from school, pizza with family, a morning at the zoo, a night out with friends, time at the Gurudwara, and one more project checked off the home to-do list.
Sometimes, those ordinary weeks are the ones that make up the best parts of family life.
