Today is New Year’s Eve—a special one, as it’s Jasper’s first-ever New Year’s Eve! It’s hard to believe that in less than 24 hours, we’ll officially be stepping into 2025, leaving behind the year our little guy was born. Time flies, doesn’t it?

Unfortunately, I’m working today to cover a few hours, but my partner was able to carve out some quality time with Jasper. On the bright side, we got an unexpected New Year’s Eve gift—last night, Jasper slept for a full 12 hours! Any parent will tell you that uninterrupted sleep is pure gold, and for him to sleep so well (and not be sick!) was a welcome surprise.

Today has been all about reflecting on 2024 and preparing for 2025. New Year’s Eve is a perfect time to pause and be grateful. Whether you pray, journal, or simply take a moment to reflect, gratitude has a way of grounding us. Life itself is something we should never take for granted.

As my partner and I looked back on the past few years, we couldn’t help but be amazed. From my skin cancer diagnosis in 2022 to where we are now, it feels like a world of difference. My heart goes out to anyone facing health challenges—I know how fortunate I was to have a treatable condition.

Here’s what I’m most grateful for in 2024, in no particular order:

  • The successful pregnancy and birth of my healthy baby boy, Jasper.

  • Being surrounded by family, friends, readers, and acquaintances who are building a sense of community, no matter our backgrounds.

  • Both my partner and I receiving promotions, both professionally and personally.

  • Moving into a new home, while passing our old house on to another family to make their own memories.

  • And most of all, having my partner by my side for the past 11 years through all of life’s ups and downs.

I’d love to hear what you are grateful for. Feel free to share in the comments, or take a moment to write it down for yourself—it’s such a powerful way to close out the year.

Looking ahead, my big goal for 2025 is to focus on physical activity and staying accountable. I’ve been pretty consistent this past year, but I want to take it to the next level. Maybe we can create a space here in The Dad Diary to share our goals and hold each other accountable. Let me know if that’s something you’d like to join in on!

This marks the 56th and final issue of 2024. Wishing you all a safe, happy, and healthy New Year. See you in 2025! 🎉

Let’s make it a great one, together.
