Coming home from a big trip is always a little strange.
One minute you’re traveling through England, seeing family, going to a Manchester City game, enjoying a concert, and bouncing between cities.
The next, you’re back home trying to remember what day it is.
This week was about getting back into the rhythm.
Wednesday was Jasper’s first day back at school after our trip, and he was genuinely happy to see his friends. There is something pretty great about watching a two-year-old walk back into his normal world like he never left.
While Jasper returned to school, Mom and Dad returned to work.
Nani and Nanu, meanwhile, finally got some much-needed rest.
They had been doing a lot while we were away, and even though Jasper’s other grandma came by to help while we were gone, taking care of a two-year-old is still exhausting. They deserved a little time to slow down.
Thursday was a shorter school day for Jasper, followed by something that has quickly become part of our routine again: swimming lessons.
After all the travel, it was nice to get back to something familiar.
Jasper continues to become more comfortable in the water, and watching that progress week after week has become one of my favorite parts of our routine.
Friday was slower.
Jasper didn’t have the best nap at school, so by the time the workday ended, he was running on empty. We kept the evening simple and got him into bed a little earlier.
Sometimes that’s exactly what a family needs after a busy stretch.
Saturday brought the less exciting side of being a homeowner.
We had discovered a leak from one of the toilets on Friday, thankfully after we had already returned home. So Saturday included getting that repaired, along with replacing the internal parts of another toilet that had been waiting for attention.
Not exactly the kind of weekend adventure that makes the travel brochure.
But that’s life.
Eventually, the repairs were done, Jasper got his nap, and we headed out with Nanu to the Indian grocery store.
A much better way to spend the afternoon.
Sunday brought us back to the Gurdwara.
After weeks of travel, work, family, and getting back into our routines, the visit felt especially needed. Some time to reflect. Some time to pray. Some time with friends.
A chance to slow down before another busy week began.
And then Monday arrived.
Back to work.
The final week of September.
The last stretch before Q4.
It’s funny how quickly life moves.
A week ago, I was still catching up from an international trip. Now we’re already staring at the final days of the quarter and preparing for everything that comes next.
But maybe that’s what this week was really about.
Not doing something extraordinary.
Just coming home.
Getting Jasper back to school.
Getting back in the pool.
Fixing what needed fixing.
Shopping with Nanu.
Returning to the Gurdwara.
Getting back to work.
After a big adventure, sometimes the best part is simply finding your rhythm again.
And honestly, it feels pretty good to be home.
