This week was full of cherished memories and firsts as we celebrated both Halloween and Diwali with Jasper. For his first Halloween, our little guy was dressed up as an adorable pumpkin, earning plenty of smiles and praise from friends and neighbors as we joined in the fun of trick-or-treating. Daddy even got the chance to pick out candy for himself—an amusing perk for an evening centered on making lasting family memories. The night was a delightful mix of laughter and amazement as Jasper took in the festive sights and sounds, even if he wasn’t quite ready to indulge in the treats just yet.

The very next day, November 1, 2024, we marked another special milestone with Jasper’s first Diwali. Despite being worn out from the excitement of Halloween, he suited up in new traditional clothes that, thanks to his growth spurt, were snug but still managed to fit. A quick trip to the temple brought smiles and joy, especially for Mom, who cherished sharing this cultural moment with her son.

With all that excitement came some overstimulated sleep challenges. Celebrations two days in a row led to schedule disruptions, reinforcing the importance of sticking to a routine—something every new parent can relate to. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule has been essential, especially for breastfeeding moms needing a break when possible. Jasper’s 7 p.m. bedtime ensures a solid stretch of sleep, but his internal alarm clock wakes him up at 5 a.m., ready for play. The end of daylight savings time change in Ohio added an extra layer of unpredictability, but fortunately, Jasper adapted well, which will be helpful as we prepare for an upcoming trip to Arizona.

This week also marked the beginning of my first week off work, dedicating extra time to bonding with Jasper. My company’s generous paternity leave policy encourages taking time to nurture these precious moments, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Those early mornings are a bit more manageable, and the joy of spending uninterrupted time with him is priceless. Here’s to many more weeks of early mornings, family traditions, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
