As we write this, Papa is over the country of Georgia, heading back to India. Taking him to the airport was bittersweet, with heavy hearts all around. Jasper’s bond with Papa grew so strong during his stay that it made this departure harder than ever. The pace of life in the U.S., combined with the time spent with his grandson, has made this goodbye feel like more of a “see you later.”
On a high note, we all went out to a Mexican restaurant for Jasper’s first real dining experience, joined by both grandparents. With bright lights, new sounds, and a lively atmosphere, Jasper was in awe and even got a walk around the restaurant to take it all in. We went during a quiet time, which allowed us to enjoy a relaxed family outing.
This week has also been about preparing for Diwali and Halloween. We hung white lights on the house, marking Jasper’s first Diwali, and he’ll be joining in his first trick-or-treating on Thursday! I also wrapped up my current job, setting up a special transition period where I’ll have three weeks at home before starting the new role. This time will help us all ease into new routines, with my mother-in-law stepping in as Jasper’s caregiver. So while it’s a time of farewells, there’s also so much to look forward to.
