What a Week!
This past week was a whirlwind, especially coming off recent travel. Everything seemed to converge at once—my fiscal month at work ended right over Memorial Day weekend. I’m incredibly grateful we had a bit of a break beforehand because this week was no small feat… and to top it off, we powered through it all while sick.
Working on and off through the holiday weekend became a necessity—and that’s exactly what happened. Thankfully, I’m on the mend now, and I’m beyond grateful for medicine and a steady recovery. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I felt this sick for this long.
On the bright side, Jasper has been feeling well. His doctor gave us some great guidance, and the amoxicillin did its job. We did hit a few bumps with sleep over the past few weeks—our packed schedule since returning home really cut into his naps, which naturally affected his nights. As many parents know, a child sleeps only as well as their last nap… and sometimes the biggest sleep disruptors can be close to home (yes, family included!).
We also had a lovely visit from Ashton—my wife’s maid of honor from our wedding 10 years ago—and her husband Curtis. Their youngest, Bodhi (3), and Jasper have such a sweet connection. They’re very different personalities, but their bond is undeniable.
This week also marked our return to the Richfield Sikh Gurdwara here in Ohio. It was hard to believe it had only been two weeks since our last visit—it felt much longer with everything that’s happened. The service was beautiful and gave me a quiet space to reflect and find some clarity. Even Jasper seemed to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Monday was Memorial Day here in the U.S.—a time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service and our veterans. We went to a local parade, and Jasper was in his element. He loved the crowd and especially enjoyed seeing my wife’s boss, who’s in town from Atlanta. He really is a social butterfly.
Finally, we wrapped up the long week by meeting a few neighbors we hadn’t crossed paths with yet, thanks to some end-of-school-year gatherings. It was great to connect with more people in the neighborhood. Capping the weekend with a relaxed chat on our next-door neighbors’ deck made for a perfect close to a full and heartwarming few days—surrounded by friends, family, community, and of course, our sweet Jasper.
