Navigating Big Feelings and Big Skies with Our 8-Month-Old
Flying coast to coast with a baby brings challenges, emotions, and unforgettable moments.
This past week marked a milestone for Jasper and our family. His first airplane ride was a success, with only a few tears during descent—a win in the world of baby travel! However, the real challenge of the trip turned out to be navigating the infamous 8-month sleep regression on the road. Without his familiar bed and routine, sleep was hard to come by for him and, by extension, for us.
Traveling with an 8-month-old certainly brought some perspective. It became clear how little you actually need to travel as an adult compared to the carefully packed bags filled with everything to keep a baby happy and comfortable. Thankfully, this trip didn’t involve a hotel; we stayed with family, which made the experience more manageable.
A highlight of the trip was celebrating Jasper’s 8-month milestone in Phoenix. While I missed catching up with some friends, I cherished the uninterrupted time with him while my partner worked. Watching Jasper bond with his grandmother was heartwarming, a memory that will hold immense value as the years pass. This trip was just the beginning of the many connections and experiences he’ll have with family.
