One Year, One Nap, and One Extra Deep Dish
From celebrating our MVP mother-in-law to chasing a suddenly sitting Jasper, it’s been a week full of milestones, messes, and midnight surprises.
I genuinely don’t know how I’d get through the week without my mother-in-law. She lives with us and somehow manages to keep everything running smoothly, quietly holding it all together with patience, love, and experience. She’s not just part of the support system—she is the system. And honestly, we’re all better for it. This past Saturday marked one year since she came back to the States from India, and it has truly been a blessing to have her with us.
Meanwhile, Jasper decided to shake things up. For the past few nights, he’s been waking up like he just wrapped a full spa retreat—rested, refreshed, and suspiciously chipper at 1 a.m. We finally figured out the culprit: he was napping a little too well during the day.
Turns out, we were overdue for a major milestone—transitioning from two naps to one. With daycare starting next week, the timing was right, even if it wasn’t exactly convenient. So we made the leap, ready or not.
Just to keep things interesting, Jasper also started sitting up straight from a full military crawl. One day he’s flat on his stomach, the next he’s upright like he’s about to lead a team meeting. Watching him grow and figure things out is like getting a daily reminder of how much can change in such a short time.
It’s messy, amazing, exhausting, and hilarious all at once—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Jasper was also the star of the show on Saturday at the baby shower for my second cousin Kayla and her husband Teddy, who are expecting their first son. He seemed especially affectionate with Kayla’s mom, Cheryl—either she looked like she needed the love, or he remembered her from his birthday party. Either way, she got plenty of hugs and kisses. It was nice to be able to pass along some of Jasper’s gently used things to help them get started.
The day wrapped up perfectly too. Our neighbor ordered pizza from a place that makes legit Chicago deep dish. The shop accidentally made his order with green peppers instead of banana peppers, so they gave him both pizzas. He offered us the extra one, and let’s just say—there are worse ways to end a long Saturday.
