Sick Days, Snow Days, and Small Victories
Finding gratitude in the middle of chaos (and cold medicine).
This week marked a big milestone — Jasper’s first full week of daycare! He did great, even though by Wednesday he started to come down with something. He toughed it out like a champ, and despite one rough night, he bounced back and didn’t miss a day. It’s been fun watching him come home with new words, new energy, and that look of pure joy kids get when they realize “school” means playtime with friends.
Wednesday also brought a special celebration — Guru Nanak’s birthday at the temple. It was a bit of a rush getting there after work, but it turned into a really nice evening. Food, laughter, candles, and community — the kind of simple night that fills your cup even when the week feels hectic.
Unfortunately, the weekend didn’t go quite as smoothly. Both my partner and I came down with whatever bug was going around. I hit the wall first — crashed hard Sunday after temple and slept a full twelve hours into Monday. She took over the sick shift on Monday while I tried to recover. The first big snowfall of the season didn’t make things easier, either. Between the cold outside and the sniffles inside, the energy level in the house dropped fast.
On the work front, it’s been… let’s just say challenging. The schedule makes zero sense, the timing of projects feels impossible, and the overall morale has been low. It’s one of those stretches where the to-do list grows faster than the motivation to tackle it.
But since this comes out on Tuesday, and we just passed Veterans Day, I’ll end on this note — despite all the complaining, I’m deeply thankful. Thankful that I get to gripe about my comfortable, remote job because others sacrificed so much to protect that freedom. To all the veterans: thank you for your service and for the luxury of my ordinary frustrations. 🇺🇸
