This week, we introduced Indian gourd to our son’s diet. Since my partner is originally from India, her family’s meals often feature foods that aren’t as common in a typical American diet. It’s been great to expose him to a variety of flavors early on, and the natural sweetness of the gourd was a hit. His mom made a special dish for him, and he really seemed to enjoy it. While the gourd was a success, sweet potatoes remain his favorite by far—although a small piece of banana might give it some competition!
On the sleep front, this week was a bit rough. On Friday, we had our first night alone as just the three of us, with my partner’s parents away on a trip to temple. To say sleep was scarce is an understatement. The longest stretch of sleep we managed was about three hours, but most intervals were just 30 minutes long. We’ve learned a few helpful tips as we navigate this 27-week mark, especially when it comes to napping. One key rule we’re sticking to is avoiding any naps after 4:30 pm. If he sleeps later than that, it completely throws off his nighttime rhythm. Another helpful strategy is making sure there’s a solid three-hour window of wakefulness before his last nap of the day. This seems to help set him up for a more successful night’s sleep, although we’re still working on perfecting the routine!
