Some weeks are filled with big milestones.
Others are made up of the small moments that quietly become memories before you even realize it.
This was one of those weeks.
Monday began the way many Mondays do in our house. Jasper headed off to school while Mom and Dad started another workweek. There wasn’t anything particularly exciting about it, but I’ve started to appreciate those ordinary days more and more.
The drop-offs. The workdays. Coming back together at the end of the day.
It may not feel exciting while you’re living it, but I have a feeling these routines are the things I’ll look back on someday and miss.
Tuesday brought one of Jasper’s favorite things: Splash Day at school.
The teachers took the kids outside, turned on the sprinklers, and gave them a chance to cool off and play in the summer heat. While some kids may need a little encouragement around the water, Jasper is usually ready to jump right in.
Anyone who knows him knows that Jasper and water are a pretty perfect combination.
A sprinkler. A pool. A bath. A splash pad. Swimming lessons.
It doesn’t really matter. If there’s water involved, he’s interested.
Wednesday was quieter and gave us a chance to settle back into our normal rhythm. Another day of school and work, followed by the simple family time that fills the spaces in between.
Then came Thursday and swimming lessons.
It continues to amaze me how much confidence Jasper is building in the water. The changes don’t always feel dramatic from week to week, but they’re there. A little more comfort. A little more confidence. A little more willingness to try.
That’s probably how most growth works.
You don’t always notice it while it’s happening. Then one day, you look back and realize just how far someone has come.
This week also included a literal bump along the way. A slip and fall led to a bump on the head and a few tears. Thankfully, Jasper bounced back quickly and was soon smiling and joking around again.
Like most parents, I think Mom and Dad were probably more concerned than Jasper was after he recovered. ❤️
Friday was a significant day for Mom and Dad.
Important meetings, appointments, and responsibilities made for a busy and demanding day. Sometimes grown-up life can feel heavy. There are schedules to manage, decisions to make, and things that need your attention whether you’re ready for them or not.
But there’s something about coming home to your family that helps put it all back into perspective.
No matter what kind of day you’ve had, there’s still a little boy waiting to play, laugh, tell you about his day, or simply be close to you.
And sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Saturday was dedicated to family time.
Mom spent part of the day preparing lunches while Dad and Jasper enjoyed time playing together. We also made a trip to the Indian store to pick up supplies for some upcoming events—which, for now, we’ll have to keep under wraps!
Afterward, we spent some time at the mall and simply enjoyed being together.
Nothing extraordinary.
No major adventure.
Just us.
The kind of afternoon that probably wouldn’t look like much on a calendar but somehow feels full when you’re living it.
Sunday brought us back to the Gurdwara.
After a busy week, it was a chance to slow down, reflect, and be grateful. Between school, work, swimming lessons, errands, and everything else that fills a family’s schedule, it’s easy to spend so much time thinking about what’s next that you forget to appreciate what is already here.
Sunday was a reminder of that.
Looking back, this week wasn’t defined by one major milestone or big event.
It was defined by sprinklers and swimming lessons.
By a few tears and a quick recovery.
By busy workdays and quiet family evenings.
By errands that became time together.
And by ending the week with gratitude.
Maybe that’s what makes an ordinary week so special. You don’t need something extraordinary to happen when you already have people and moments worth coming home to.
Those are the moments worth remembering. ❤️
