The Week Everything Hit at Once
Jump Seats, Fevers, and Tornadoes—Just Another Week with a Baby.
The week finally arrived—our first real conversation about part-time daycare for Jasper. But before we could even walk through those doors, the chaos began at home. Just one day before his first day, we had a full-blown, three-alarm, all-hands-on-deck blowout—thanks to Jasper’s favorite place to poop: his jumpy seat. This time, he may have jumped a little too enthusiastically. We were cleaning up more than just excitement. To keep things interesting, another leak greeted us the following day. Was the universe trying to send us a warning?
As if that weren’t enough, a tornado warning hit our hometown the night before daycare started. It was intense and scary, but thankfully uneventful. I even snapped a photo—because of course, we needed some storm drama to round things out.

But then, to our relief, Day 1 at daycare was a win. Jasper had a blast meeting other kids his age. It was heartwarming to see him so engaged and happy. We did receive a notice that conjunctivitis was going around the facility, which raised an eyebrow, but luckily, no signs of that here.
Then came Thursday—Day 2. It was harder. Jasper was fussier, likely still adjusting, and Mom had to head into the office after a rough, sleepless night. That evening, his fever crept in—99.4°F. We gave him some children’s Tylenol, which has helped keep it under control, but it’s been a rollercoaster since. He’s hot, then better, then fussy again. Not the smoothest lead-in to the weekend.
And now here we are, Mother’s Day weekend, and the one who should be getting pampered is instead worn out and managing a sick baby. Add in the stress of work, which hasn’t been going well on my end lately, and it’s safe to say the past couple of weeks have felt like one long uphill climb. The “downs” all seem to have synced up at once.
As I write this, Jasper’s condition continues to seesaw. The good news: we’re hoping to see the doctor tomorrow, finally. We’re anxious but ready for answers—and some guidance on whether this is just a post-daycare bug or something more.
Oh, and did I mention we’re also supposed to travel this week?
Would you have called the doctor sooner? Waited it out like we did? It’s tough to know what’s best when you’re living moment to moment. Here’s hoping for a calmer week ahead—and fewer jumpy-seat surprises.
