This past week has been a very interesting time in our household. First, we had an incident where the grandparents were telling us what they would do and everything we’re doing wrong. Parental raising through the generations can be very tough to deal with. We know a lot more now than when everyone reading this was born. I am sure in the future it will be even better. We should all be doing our own learning but also be sensitive to elders. In some cases, it may be sound advice, but in others, that same advice can be what not to do. Take it and implement as needed, but do your own research.

As discussed in a previous post, we are also starting to burst at the seams of our home. In addition to bringing home the little bundle of joy, we also brought in our in-laws for support as full-time care. It’s nice to have the hands, and honestly, they enjoy it, but in our 3-bedroom, 1-full bath house, it is tight. Plus, both my partner and I work from home, so we also need that space. Right now, it is too loud to work when working from home. While working from home is a blessing, it has drawbacks as well. How are you dealing with working from home and kids? Do you have an office off-premise even though you are remote from the corporate office? Going in is not an option in my case as the office is miles/kilometers away, outside of commuting distance. It would take a day just to get there.

In making our future decision on living location, school is, of course, of utmost importance. In our current location, we have decent public schools and some good private schools. I am okay to move outside my current location for better schools. I have found some interesting articles, and it seems like the best schools right now in my area up through 9th grade are Montessori schools. I personally went to traditional schooling, so this is more of a foreign concept I am researching. My partner was educated in India, which has an arguably better system than the United States. I would be interested to see what others think. I left a link for people who, like me, don’t even know what Montessori schools are.

Do you have any experiences with generational advice or living in tight spaces with your family? How are you handling working from home with kids? Have you explored different schooling options for your children? Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other.
