It’s still hard to believe, but even more snow is coming down here. We’ve already blown past seasonal totals for the past decade. I haven’t started my snowblower this much since we first became homeowners! The snow is undeniably beautiful when you’re watching it from inside, but I feel for those who have to commute in it—been there before, and I’m beyond grateful to be working from home now. I can enjoy the beauty without dealing with the beast.
On another note, I missed another gym day recently. Like most parents, my schedule ran over with work, and my partner and I went out to celebrate one of my best friend’s birthdays. I’ve been striving to be more active, but I’ve come to realize that balance is key. Physical health is important, but so is nurturing relationships.
Lately, we’ve been focused on making our new house feel like home. After some searching, we found a kitchen table we absolutely love, and we also treated ourselves to a new bedroom set—definitely something to get excited about! We also made our first trip to the toy store with Jasper. While 10 months old might be a little young for most toys, it was amazing to see his eyes light up at some of the simpler ones before his nap. These little moments remind me of how much I want to be present for him.
Recently, I’ve recognized an issue I think many of us face: not always being in the moment. Social media was part of the problem for me. I’m not against it—I think it has its place—but I noticed it was pulling me away from one of my most important goals: raising my son. So, I decided to hide my social media apps to be more intentional. When I do open them, it’ll be for a purpose—like promoting something, not mindlessly consuming.
Looking at 2025 so far, I’ve missed my movement goal twice, but I’ve been quick to pick myself back up and keep going. I’ve also stayed consistent with meditation and focusing on my mental health. There was one day where I felt off, likely due to lack of sleep, but overall, I’m proud of my progress.
Most importantly, I’m working hard to stay in the moment. This didn’t start as a New Year’s resolution, but as Jasper grows, I want to ensure that I’m devoting as much time as I can to him outside of work. I want to experience his milestones and all the little moments that come with raising him. After all, those are the things that matter most.
