Navigating Sleep Challenges with Our 18-Week-Old Baby
Finding Solutions and Restoring Balance in Our Household
This week was the continuation of redoing sleep patterns after our recent travel. We’ve been struggling with short naps as we tried to push up his nap timing. Initially, we thought putting our son to bed at 7 p.m. would be ideal, but it turns out that this early bedtime has been causing some issues. Instead of giving him the rest he needs, the 7 p.m. bedtime has led to him taking short 45-minute naps. This is because he is often too well-rested to settle into a deeper sleep.
After observing his sleep patterns, we’ve found that our son’s best time for sleep is actually 8 p.m., not 7 p.m. By adjusting his bedtime to 8 p.m., he has been able to sleep more soundly and for longer stretches. This adjustment hasn’t been easy and takes time, but it has made a significant difference in his overall sleep quality.
We’re now making the necessary adjustments to ensure his bedtime is consistently at 8 p.m. This change has required patience and persistence, but we are hopeful that it will help him establish a more stable sleep routine. As we continue to fine-tune his sleep schedule, we’re learning that sometimes small adjustments can have a big impact on our little one’s sleep and overall well-being.
The takeaway this week is that we need to roll with the punches and not reinvent the wheel. Instead of forcing a rigid schedule, we’ve realized that it’s more effective to let our son dictate his sleeping habits and adjust to his needs as a baby. By being flexible and responsive, we can better support him through this stage while coaching him towards the next milestone. It’s all about finding the right balance and being patient as we guide him through his sleep journey.
